The neighborhood
Kerem HaTeimanim is an old neighborhood in the heart of Tel Aviv, right next to Carmel Market. Its streets are narrower than the surrounding area, and its character is different from the large boulevards nearby - relatively quiet, despite sitting right in the center.
Over the years the area has become one of the most varied parts of the city for food, with kitchens from different traditions side by side. Balinjera sits exactly at that point, on the edge of the market.
Combining it with the market
Carmel Market is a short walk away, and the two pair well: walking the market is an intense experience of color, noise and smells, and an Ethiopian meal afterwards is a welcome change of pace - you sit down, the food arrives on one platter, and the rhythm slows.
If you are planning your day, keep in mind that the market's hours and the restaurant's hours are not the same. It is worth checking our opening hours in advance, especially on Fridays.
For visitors from out of town
For anyone visiting Tel Aviv, this area works well as a stop: it is central, close to the beach, and lets you combine several things in one day without traveling.
